Pinhole Surgery Q & A

What is the Pinhole Surgical Technique?

The Pinhole Surgical Technique is an innovative procedure that doesn’t require the use of surgical tools like scalpels or sutures. It’s considered minimally invasive since it’s not painful and typically doesn’t cause serious post-surgery complications.

Dr. Hsu is specially trained to perform the PinHole Technique and has helped many patients correct gum recession with it.

How does the Pinhole Surgical Technique work?

When your gums recede, the yellowish roots of your teeth become bare and make your teeth more vulnerable to decay. The Pinhole Surgical Technique involves using specially designed surgical tools to gently loosen your gum tissue so that it can be reconfigured to cover the bare roots of your teeth once again as it's supposed to.

During treatment, Dr. Hsu uses a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. He then uses a needle to make a small hole in your gum tissue, which helps him loosen up the affected gum tissue and glide it back over your teeth.

When Dr. Hsu performs the Pinhole Surgical Technique, it’s normally a quick procedure, taking an hour or less in most cases. Most patients notice results and improvements to their receding gums right away.

Since poor oral hygiene habits usually cause receding gums, Dr. Hsu recommends follow-up visits after treatment to monitor your brushing and flossing in an effort to stave off future gum recession.

Is the Pinhole Surgical Technique safe?

Yes, the technique is safe. Dr. Hsu performs it regularly right in his office. In most cases, patients don’t experience any side effects and can resume their daily routine right after treatment. However, in some cases, you may experience minor pain and swelling. If you do, it should only be temporary and typically subsides on its own.

Am I a good candidate for the Pinhole Surgical Technique?

If you have receding gums, you are likely a good candidate for the Pinhole Surgical Technique. Dr. Hsu evaluates your dental history and your overall fitness to undergo a surgical procedure. Everyone’s situation is different, but if you think you might be a good candidate for this procedure, call or use the online booking tool today to set up an initial consultation with Dr. Hsu.
