Invisalign: Your New Year's Resolution

Invisalign: Your New Year's Resolution

Don’t wait until January 1st to commit to a new, healthy habit. Start 2023 off right by committing to a new smile. The New Year means new beginnings and resolutions to better ourselves. However, it also means crowded gyms and busier restaurants. Luckily, there’s a way to straighten teeth without the wires and metal of traditional braces. It’s called Invisalign, and it’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for treating gapped teeth or misaligned teeth.

At-home aligner trays made of BPA-free clear plastic are used to straighten teeth. Each tray is custom-made to fit over the teeth. Patients wear each set of aligners for 2 weeks at home before switching to the next set in the series. Each new set gradually shifts the teeth toward their proper positions. Since the aligners are clear, they’re virtually invisible while patients are wearing them.

Because Invisalign aligners are removable, patients can still eat their favorite foods without the hassle of removing wires. They can also brush and floss their teeth normally to keep teeth and gums healthy and clean. A trip to our office every six weeks is required for checkups and progress checks. These appointments are typically short since there are no adjustments to make and no wires to tighten. With Invisalign, your smile can be yours to share this holiday season and beyond!

How Does Invisalign Work?

Once you’ve determined you’re a candidate, you’ll start your first set of aligners. These aligner trays are made from smooth, virtually invisible plastic designed to fit comfortably over your teeth. Each set is worn for about two weeks until your smile gradually shifts into place. For best results, wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours each day and take them off only to eat and brush. Make sure to schedule regular visits with your provider to monitor your progress and ensure you don’t experience any discomfort or unexpected side effects.

In addition to being comfortable and removable, Invisalign aligners are also completely see-through, so no one will ever know you’re wearing them. This makes this orthodontic treatment ideal for teens and adults who want to straighten their smiles without drawing attention to their treatment. In fact, it’s not uncommon for patients to receive compliments on their straighter teeth after wearing Invisalign for a while!

To avoid contamination between uses, be sure to keep your aligners in their case and never leave them out in the open. When it’s time to eat a meal, simply remove your trays and enjoy all your favorite foods without worrying about damaging your treatment. When you’re finished eating, brush your teeth and then put your trays back in to continue straightening your smile as you sleep. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can continue to brush and floss just like you normally would. However, for best results, avoid whitening products while wearing your aligners since doing so will soak the aligners in chemicals and make them less effective.
